Most franchise brands don’t have a lead problem. They have an alignment problem. Here’s how we think about it, and an invitation to see it in action.

If your franchise-development numbers have ever plateaued, you know the reflex. Leads slow down, so something has to change. A new channel. A new agency. Another campaign. A bigger budget, or a tighter one. It feels like forward motion. You’re doing a lot. But a quarter later the pipeline looks about the same, and the cycle starts over.

We call it the hamster wheel. And in our experience, brands don’t stay on it because they aren’t working hard. They stay on it because the work isn’t connected to a plan the whole organization actually believes in.

The problem usually isn’t the tactics. It’s how the plan gets built.

Here’s something our team has watched play out for decades, across industries and now across franchising: most marketing plans are built by a small group, polished into a presentation, and handed to everyone else to execute. The logic might be perfectly sound. But the people responsible for delivering it (marketing, franchise development, leadership, and the agencies and vendors in the mix) never really participated in the thinking. So they don’t own it. Priorities drift. Everyone optimizes their own corner. And all that well-intentioned activity produces noise instead of growth.

That’s the part the industry doesn’t talk about enough. How you build the plan matters as much as what’s in it. A strategy nobody helped shape is a strategy nobody fully supports.

What we do differently

At Tidehouse, we don’t write the plan for you and present it. We build it with you.

Our process is collaborative and hands-on. We bring the people whose decisions and support actually affect execution, often marketing, development, and leadership in the same room, and we work through the real questions out loud: what’s driving the need to change, which candidates and markets matter most, where the story and the effort should focus, and who owns what. We facilitate; the room participates. What comes out isn’t a deck that sits in a drawer. It’s a shared, structured plan the team helped shape, can explain, and is ready to run.

Two things tend to happen when you build it this way. The plan gets sharper, because more perspectives pressure-tested it. And the organization gets aligned, because people support what they helped create. That alignment is the quiet engine behind marketing that actually performs.

What we won’t promise

We’re not going to tell you a single workshop will fix your culture, erase your silos, or guarantee more closed deals. Results still depend on your budget, your market, the quality of your execution, and your sales process. What a better plan, built the right way, can do is give you clarity, focus, and an organization pulling in the same direction. In our experience, that’s what makes everything downstream work better.

We’ll also tell you this: it doesn’t have to take months. With the right methodology, we’ve helped brands get to a real, ownable plan in a matter of weeks. In one case, a multi-brand home-services franchisor sat its leadership and franchise-development stakeholders down, worked through a new candidate-and-market approach together, and greenlit the revised direction in a single day. Friction surfaced and resolved in the room, before a dollar hit the market instead of after.

Why Tidehouse

Tidehouse has been focused on franchise marketing since the early 2000s, and relaunched in 2025 with a sharpened, strategy-first approach. We’re franchise-native. We understand the reality of selling a business and a brand at the same time, and we’re collaborative by design, not cookie-cutter by default. We ask the right questions before we bring answers into the room.

That perspective is exactly why we’re spending 30 minutes on this topic.
